Motovespa Sprints, which also have legsheild glovebox/spare under panel and round rear end - unlike Italian Sprint which is squared of for number plate. Motovespa also produced a 150GS in 1967 - GS in name only as was a rebadged Sprint. Following this they produced the 160, again basically aSprint, with piston ported 160 engine and rear brake pedal built into floor and not pivoted of side of tunnel as per Sprint and like a PX type, using a 50 special brake pedal. This later became a GT160 and then GTi160 - "i" signifying femsa electronic ignition - which I have been told was the first electronic ignition vespa, before the Italian Rally200 had adopted a Spanish Femsa deigned electronic ignition.
Vespa 160 - Series description
09c 1969-1973 (#1 series - MK1)
Was simply called the MotoVespa 160, and was available only in blue and had Vespa Sprint style aluminum trim on the mudguard and side panels. Often the Moto Vespa 160 is confused with the Super Sport 180, but on second glance you can see the many differences. Setting: Front part as in the Sprint / Rally, however, with sportive, upwards narrow tapered leg shield. The tail is from an older model, in the way VNA, VNB, etc., only with spare tire holder. In contrast to the rally / sprint the tail is rounded and has no square surface for the indicator. The frames are factory not 100% straight welded, so the seat pin, the frame top and the center leg shield form no escape. On the track it has no effect! Otherwise the 160's has assembled a glove compartment. Sidepanels: Extremely wide, are consistent with those of SuperSport 180. Handlebar: Correspond with those of Sprint 1 and GL agreed only is a standard unshielded final shifter mounted. Fork: As with the old Sprint / GL, with Spanish oil pressure damper with "Vespa" logo and Spanish labels. Engine: Direct intake with 160ccm, Dell 'Orto downdraft carburetor with 19mm cross section and Femsatronic Electronic ignition, ignition coil which sits under the seat in the top frame. The actual rotary valve inlet is present but not milled. The main shaft is made Oldie parts (two split shift pins, switching cross) and a sprint shaft. The brake drum is centered by means of a conical ring. However, it also fits a PX shaft Alt. Bearings, oil seals, etc. fits all of the Sprint. The crankshaft is symmetrical, ie has two cones and therefore the clutch is mounted on the cone and requires a special puller. The gears are slightly narrower than that of the sprint. The flywheel is in accordance with the ignition also specifically Spanish, as well as cylinder, head and piston. The exhaust is built as a southpaw and can be screwed depending on the version for cleaning. By the direct intake the 160's needed as the old GS also 1:20. Other special features: Moto Vespa badge instead Piaggio Hexagon, "El Tigre" - plaque on the bench, special steering, and glove box lock, tank filler identical V50, brake pedal V50, trims such as the Super Sport 180 / TS / GT and original mounted chrome slotted pipes instead of Alukantenschutzes the leg shield.
09c 1973-1979 (#2 series - MK2)
MotoVespa GT160 was available in many colors and didn't have the aluminum trim pieces like the previous models and had "electronic: stickers similar to a Vespa Rally 200.
09c 1974-0 (#3 series - MK3)
MotoVespa GTi160 was the same as previous models but had handlebar end mounted indicators (the "i" came from the Spanish word for indicators/blinkers "intermitente") and the legshield script was made from plastic instead of metal like the other models.
